Major World Civic Problems
These are the civic problems experienced globally. In other words, these civic problems happen all over the world. Some of them are:
Terrorism is the use of violence, especially murder and bombing, in order to achieve political aims or to force a government to do something.
Some religious extremists equally try to use terrorism to make their point, exmaple Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda, etc. This is major civic problem the world is facing because it appears there is no safe place anymore. It is either there is no safe place anymore. It is either there is abomb explosion or there is a threat of it in almost all the continents of the world.
2. Religious extremism:
This is when people take their religious beliefs too far. It leads to religious intolerance. When this happens, some religious groups begin to see others as demons or infidels and they find it difficult to tolerate them. This is not right because we all have freedom of religion.
Human beings do not have the choice to decide families where they will be born. Therefore, many people practise the religion existing in the families where they are born. God is love. We should not kill others in order to please God. We should reach out to people of other religion with love and not hatred or violence.
It is only then that they will want to belong to your all humans want to be treated with love and care.
A war is a period of fighting or conflict between countries or states. There is always war going on between one country and the other because of some selfish interests of leaders or little misunderstanding.
Some of these wars are expensive, in terms of money used in buying weapons, and human lives are equally lost in these wars. These wars are avoidable through peaceful resolutions.
4. Climate Changes:
In the world, some countries are highly industrialized and these industries emit dangerous gases that cause change in the world’s climate, climate changes can also be cause by gas flaring, fumes from exhaust pipes and bush burning which carbon monoxide that tends to reduce the thickness of the ozone layer. Thereby exposing the earth to the harmful rays of the sun. This is known as the depletion of the ozone layer.
The ozone layer is a layer of the universe high above the earth’s surface that helps protect the earth from direct sun rays.
Depletion of the ozone layer causes global warming and excessive heat in the world. This heat causes the ice in the polar or arctic region of the world to melt, leading to flooding. Rivers over-flow their banks and some animals are forced to leave their natural habitats. Animals like the polar bear are facing extinction.
Sometimes, rain fails to fall and the rivers will dry up, the ground will break, human beings, animals and crops will die. This is a big challenge in the world today.
5. Nuclear Threat:
Some countries of the world are working hard to acquire nuclear power despite growing compaign in the world against it. It is a weapon of mass destruction.
Nuclear power is capable of destroying the whole world in minutes. Countries are warned to drop all their nuclear programmes. This is a threat to the survival of the world.
6. Family Disorganization:
The structure of many families in the world has changed. The values that held families together in the past have disappeared. Many children are raised in single parent homes by teenage mother who are not ready for motherhood.
Some of these children become deviants in society without discipline.
They easily become drug addicts and may easily be brainwashed into becoming terrorist. They have no ambition and cannot make any meaningful contribution to the society.
The rate of divorce is very high and children raised up in these fractured families are confused. Some of them are not able to cope and they become source of anxiety to their parents and society.
